Cambridge Consultants hailed as a 'Cambridge Great' in prestigious business awards
Expanding technology leader recognised by Business Weekly for innovation brilliance
Innovative technology design and development firm Cambridge Consultants has been named a ‘Cambridge Great’ by one of East Anglia’s top business publications. The accolade has come in the 2011 Business Weekly Awards announced today.
The award is in recognition of what Business Weekly described as “decades of innovation brilliance”. Cambridge Consultants’ enterprise has created more than a billion pounds’ worth of value and more than 3,000 jobs. Five of its spin-outs have gone on to be listed on the London Stock Exchange and several have been sold in multi-million-pound deals.
“Once in a while a company displays such a staggering array of all-round capabilities it defies pigeon-holing in any one category,” said Dominic Moore of Mountgrange, presenting the award to Cambridge Consultants. “Business Weekly and the judges were moved to create a suitable award that may never be presented again – the recipient is that special. At the Oscars it would no doubt be branded a Lifetime Achievement Award but this particular business is just starting out on a fresh era of global growth. We have called the award ‘Cambridge Greats’ and, in this context, there was only one contender.
“Without Cambridge Consultants, arguably there would be no Cambridge technology cluster. It has been both mother and father of invention since 1960. But it doesn’t stand still – it recently spun out Aveillant, which was a strong contender for the Startup and CleanTech Awards.
“It is a leading wireless player, having been integral to a new wireless heart pacemaker technology as well as the local white space consortium. Its technologies are impacting on sectors such as medical technology, the military and homeland security, and consumer products. At the same time, it achieved strong growth from Cambridge last year and has embarked on an exciting strategy designed to double revenues inside four years.”
With more than 300 talented developers, engineers, scientists and mathematicians, together with a significant portfolio of intellectual property, Cambridge Consultants helps clients achieve a cutting-edge advantage over their competitors – becoming market leaders through innovation. This year alone the company has announced the new T-Haler wireless asthma inhaler training device, Bluetooth low energy enabled iPhone applications for mobile health, and the ModStar radio architecture for military communications.
Brian Moon, Chief Executive Officer, Cambridge Consultants, said: “This award reflects our history and is also a tribute to our striking success over the last decade. Presently, we have our ambitions set on the next chapter of even greater things – targets we believe we can achieve due to the sheer expertise and skill of our world-class team of engineers and scientists. We’ve recruited 26 new staff already this year and want to maximise our growth potential; our doors are very much open to talented individuals looking for a fulfilling career.”
