Cambridge Consultants donates £4,000 to charity Red Balloon

Company and staff hold events to raise money for charity supporting severely bullied children.

Cambridge Consultants, a leading technology design and development firm, today donated a cheque for £4,000 to the Red Balloon Learner Centre, a charity which provides help and support to severely bullied children.

Red Balloon, which has headquarters in Cambridge, was founded in 1996 by Dr Carrie Herbert MBE in response to a cry for help from a parent desperate to find an education for her bullied child who had attempted suicide. Today, Red Balloon is the only charity which specifically helps severely bullied children who are out of school and missing an education. There are over 16,000 such children in the UK. Dr Herbert was awarded an MBE in the 2012 New Year’s Honours List for her services to education.

Jessica Lechner, Coordinator of Red Balloon- Cambridge says, “Our aim is to restore children’s self confidence, get them back on an academic track and support their return to mainstream education or into employment. Some of our students have been out of school for months or even years – but they are recoverable and we successfully recover 95% of the children who stay with us longer than six weeks.” She goes on to say, “We are thrilled to have received £4,000 from Cambridge Consultants which will be used to continue the difficult job of recovering bullied children. We are so grateful to all those who worked very hard to raise the money.”

Cambridge Consultants chose Red Balloon as their ‘charity of the year’ and held various events to raise money including cake sales, vegetables for sale, a pie competition and donations from staff to name a few. Edward Brunner, Principal Engineer at Cambridge Consultants says, “we are delighted to have been able to raise £4,000 for such a worthy charity. We had a lot of fun raising the money with events spread throughout the year and are so pleased to be able to help improve children’s lives here in Cambridge.”
