New recruitment drive as demand grows for innovative product development
Transatlantic expansion will see product design and development firm Cambridge Consultants create 100 new jobs this year as demand for its cutting-edge innovation expertise continues to grow.
A recruitment advertising campaign is under way in Boston this month as part of plans to grow the firm’s US office from 42 to 100 people by the end of 2016. The office has already increased its headcount by 50% in six months, since it moved to new, larger premises on the edge of the city’s emerging innovation district.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the company expects to create a further 70 new jobs during 2015 – and building work continues on a three-storey extension to the company’s Auton Building that opened at the end of last year. Together, the two new buildings will house more than 260 staff and represent a £13m investment in state-of-the-art facilities.
“Our ambitious expansion plans have already seen the company grow by 50% over the past three years to 470 people around the world,” said Alan Richardson, CEO of Cambridge Consultants. “We’re now looking for even more top-flight people to come and join our success story.
“Each year we’re helping more and more clients turn brilliant ideas into commercial products. That in turn means our staff have access to a unique variety of cutting-edge challenges – with the opportunity to really make a difference every day. Our continued investment in world-class facilities demonstrates our commitment to providing a dynamic development environment in which our talented global team can thrive.”
Cambridge Consultants staff have access to a Satimo Stargate 64 anechoic radio test facility in the UK and a professionally-equipped simulated operating room in the US, as well as a variety of rapid prototyping workshops, life science laboratories and human factors facilities.
The new jobs being created are for engineers, scientists, mathematicians and designers to work across projects in a diverse range of industries including medical technology, industrial and consumer products, digital health, oil and gas, and wireless communications. Projects range from the latest in wearable technology and sensing systems to novel drug delivery device development and breakthrough radio design. Clients include household names such as Adidas, Novartis and Iridium as well as innovative start-ups around the world.
For the last two years, Cambridge Consultants has appeared in the list of The Sunday Times 100 Best Mid-Sized Companies to Work For in the UK. “Our growth is based on the entrepreneurial spirit and technological prowess of our staff,” said Richardson. “The company provides the ‘platform for ambition’ for our staff to be the best they can be.”
In its 55-year history, Cambridge Consultants has been involved in a number of world-first technology breakthroughs. And, to date, some 20 businesses have spun out of the company, including three of the 14 billion-dollar-capitalisation firms created in the Cambridge technology cluster – CSR, Xaar and Domino.
